To all Sumó National Federations
In order to fíght against the ever-growing problem of doping in sport,
the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has over the years íntroduced
tougher measures. More recently, the IOC published a Medical Code which
defines the rules relating to doping and provides among other things a
list of prohibited substances and methods used in doping. This Medical
Code is commonly refered to as the " Olympic Movement Anti-Doping
Code ".
Since ít is everyone`s responsibility to fight agaínst
doping, it has become necessary for the International Sumó Federation to
start introducing anti-doping measures. These new measures are in the
process of being implemented and will fully comply with the
above-mentionned Olympíc Movement Antí-Doping Code.
All these new changes mean that ín the near future, anti-Doping tests
will be carried out during sumó competitíons as well as outside the
competition field.
As a consequence, we would like you to joín us in our fight against
doping by gettíng prepared for when tests wíll be carried out. Since our
anti-doping rules will be based on the IOC Medical Code, we expect your
organízation/federation to get acquainted with this Code and comply with
its rules by introducing if necessary anti-doping measures. In doing so,
the above-mentionned Olympic Movement Anti-Doping Code should be your
reference. Such measures should ínclude among other things providing the
wrestlers with information regarding prohibited substances as well as
informatíon regardíng sanctions.
Your National Olympíc Committee should be able to provide you wíth
all the necessary information regarding the Olympíc Movement Antí-Doping
Code. However, we always remaín at
your dísposal and will answer any questíon you míght have regarding
the matter. When necessary, we wíll also send you updates concerning thís
issue.
Should you have any questions regarding this matter,
please do not hesitate to contact us. We wísh you good luck in your fíght
against doping and remain,
Sincerely,

Hídetoshí Tanaka
General Secretary
International Sumó Federation
